Research shows that people suffering from insomnia face more health risks such as:
- Sleep deprivation impacts learning abilities, also has an effect on short term memory
- Immune system becomes weaker - you get sick easily and take a long time to recover
- Pain in muscles (especially neck and shoulders) and jointsHeadaches
- Moodiness, irritability is also widely reported after not sleeping properly. This has a negative effect on both your personal and professional relationships
- Consuming / craving for more unhealthy food is another symptom frequently reported and as a consequence digestion becomes sluggish
- Heart rate might be elevated and blood pressure might rise
- Higher risk to get type-2 diabetes
Many writings say that you should sleep 8 hours a night but the truth is that everyone’s need is different. Instead of 8 hours you can calculate your sleep cycles that are around 90 minute long. If you would like to have a good night sleep you can calculate with 5 cycles (7.5 hours) or 4 cycles (6 hours) in every 24 hours. In total, you should have 28-35 cycles per week.
The following week's posts will be on sleep. Meanwhile, if you would like to join a workshop on sleep please click here for further details
